Phantoms star Drew Fortney earns honors

BOARDMAN -- Mahoning Valley Phantoms defenseman Drew Fortney was named the North American Hockey League's (NAHL) Sher-Wood Co-Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending November 21.
Fortney is the second Phantoms defenseman in as many weeks to win the award, following Dennis Urban. He also is the fourth Phantom in five weeks to win Player of the Week honors, joining Anthony Ciraulo and Marc Menzione.
Fortney registered one assist in two games against Alpena last weekend, but that point was huge. It led to the Phantoms' first goal as the Phantoms overcame a 2-0 deficit to beat the Ice Diggers 5-3.
More impressively, Fortney had a plus-minus rating of +7 for the weekend as he was on the ice at even-strength for eight of the Phantoms goals while only on once during an Alpena goal.
The Phantoms play at Alpena today and Saturday at 7 p.m.
