United board accepts teacher's resignation
HANOVERTON -- The United Board of Education unanimously approved the resignation of a veteran teacher at its special meeting Wednesday night.
Superintendent Tom Davis said Eugene Paina, a physical education and health teacher at United High School, requested that the board accept his resignation.
Davis said Paina has been a teacher for 27 years. Paina told the board he was resigning for personal reasons. His resignation was effective Wednesday.
He had been on a paid leave of absence since Oct. 21, the superintendent said.
Davis said he and the board would respect Paina's desire to not elaborate on why he resigned.
Davis said a substitute teacher will take over Paina's duties for a few weeks, and then the board will hire a long-term health and physical education substitute teacher for the remainder of the school year.
