Ron Gerberry announces candidacy for state Senate
YOUNGSTOWN -- Announcing his candidacy for the 33rd Ohio Senate District, Mahoning County Recorder Ron Gerberry said state government needs a drastic overhaul to be put back into the hands of the people.
Gerberry, 52, of Austintown, said Wednesday he is running as a Democrat and seeking to fill the seat of Sen. Robert F. Hagan, a Youngstown Democrat. Hagan cannot seek re-election to the 33rd District seat because of term-limit regulations.
Gerberry was a member of the Ohio House of Representatives from 1982-2000. He called the state leadership of the past 10 years "pathetic," and said as a state senator he will focus on education and job creation.
Ohio's 33rd Senate District includes all of Mahoning and Carroll counties and parts of Stark and Tuscarawas counties.
