CORTLAND -- The Lakeview Board of Education reminded the public that permanent improvement funds will be used on the East Drive paving project at Lakeview High School.
No money used for educating students will be spent on the $99,800 project, to be done by Miller-Yount Paving of Warren, board members said at their Monday meeting.
Voters approved a five-year permanent improvement levy renewal in 2001. The next five-year permanent improvement renewal levy will be on the November 2006 general election ballot.
A complete breakdown of all funds spent on the Lakeview schools will be done after taxes have been assessed in January, the board said.
Board member Larry Swiger said he wants the public to be able to see the expenses incurred vs. the money allocated to cover them, and that he wants the community to know that the board is spending its tax dollars wisely.
The board will swear in its new members at its January meeting. Board members are Swiger, Donna Zuga, Donald Moore, Mary Williams, and Larry Shearer.
Two members are stepping down: board president Michael Rantilla who served one term, and Beverly Hoagland, who served five terms and chose not to run for re-election.
Other agenda items
In other business, Moore announced there will be letters sent to all alumni who graduated from Lakeview, Cortland, and Bazetta high schools next month to get their approval and information needed to compile an alumni address book, which should be ready one year from now.
Moore said an alumni listing is a "great way to get and stay in touch with former classmates."
The board also accepted these donations: $2,000 from the Optimist Club for uniforms for the girls track team; an HP PhotoSmart 7550 and a HP Office Jet G85 printer from David Howard; $600 from Marjorie Sudimack to be applied to the Thomas Sudimack Scholarship Fund; and $1,000 from the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for the district's scholarship fund.
