Man faces charges in boy's abduction
YOUNGSTOWN -- A West Side man was in Mahoning County Jail on Sunday evening on charges of abduction and kidnapping.
Police arrested Paul Mounce, 28, at his Manchester Avenue residence about 2:45 a.m. Sunday. He is accused of abducting his 4-year-old son in Illinois.
According to a report, Youngstown police were notified when an Amber Alert went out that said Mounce was headed to the Mahoning Valley with his son, Paul Mounce Jr. Acting on a tip, police were given permission by Mounce's girlfriend to search their residence; officers found father and son in an upstairs bedroom, and the boy was unharmed, the report shows.
According to police, Mounce said he took his son from Kempton, Ill., because conditions at his former girlfriend's home were unfit for his son, whom the elder Mounce said wanted to return to Ohio with him. Mounce's ex-girlfriend is the boy's mother.
The county Children Services Board was notified of the situation, and the child is staying with his grandmother here.
