LISBON -- An Austintown man was killed and his passenger injured after the vehicle in which they were traveling struck a guardrail in Madison Township.
Stephen M. Moore, 23, of Woodgate Street, was taken by Tri-County Ambulance to East Liverpool Hospital's emergency room. Moore died after the accident, which took place shortly after 2:30 a.m. Sunday near U.S. Route 30 and state Routes 45 and 11, the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Lisbon post said.
Moore's passenger, 25-year-old Chad W. Kimmel of East Palestine, was in stable condition Sunday evening after being taken by helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center, Youngstown.
The men were traveling east on Route 30 when Moore passed traffic in a no-passing zone, the patrol said. After returning to his lane, Moore lost control of his vehicle, which went off the right side of the road, hitting the guardrail. It then spun around and struck an embankment and a tree, the patrol said.
The accident remained under investigation Sunday evening.
