Volunteers from Holy Trinity Ukrainian Byzantine Catholic Church on Rayen Avenue in Youngstown gather every Thursday and Friday to prepare about 10,000 pirogi for a church fund-raiser. Among those forming the tasty dough pouches this week were, top, from left, Ann Humeniuk of Girard, Evanka Leczk, who is visiting the United States from Poland, Michael Kopczyk of Boardman, and Katherine Blbczysk of Campbell. Taking on stirring responsibilities were, right, Basil Luciw of Youngstown and Dora Kopczyk of Boardman. Mrs. Kopczyk is 89 and one of the oldest volunteers. Stuffing them with mashed potatoes, above, was Kay Bury of Struthers. The word pirogi has several spellings, including the one used on signs outside the church.
