Flames 3, Red Wings 1
CALGARY, Alberta -- Tony Amonte scored one and goal and assisted on another to lead the Calgary Flames to their eighth straight victory. Chuck Kobasew notched the winning goal on a second-period power play, Daymond Langkow chipped in with two assists, and former Red Wings forward Darren McCarty also scored for the Flames. Robert Lang scored the lone goal for the Red Wings (15-4-1), who lost their second straight road game after winning their first seven away from Joe Louis Arena.
Islanders 7, Thrashers 3
ATLANTA -- Shawn Bates scored twice, including a goal in the closing minutes of the third period to help New York Islanders to its third straight victory. Miroslav Satan, who also had two goals, made it 6-3 with about four minutes remaining. Jason Blake made it a rout with a power-play goal with 27 seconds left in the Islanders' highest-scoring game of the season. Atlanta had outscored opponents 19-2 in winning three in a row. Ilya Kovalchuk scored a franchise-record six goals in his previous two games, but was scoreless against the Islanders. Arron Asham and Trent Hunter added New York goals. Jaroslav Modry, Peter Bondra and Jim Slater scored for Atlanta.
