Pair of robberies reported on South Avenue

YOUNGSTOWN -- One attempted and one successful armed robbery took place on South Avenue Tuesday evening.
A woman who works at Irish Bob's at 3602 South Ave. said she was approached by two young men when she left the business around 6:20 p.m. One had a handgun and demanded money. The woman told police she yelled and, at the same time, activated her car alarm via the hand-held remote. Her actions thwarted a robbery, police said.
At 8 p.m., police were sent to the Dragon Palace at 3501 South Ave. The clerk said a man wearing a ski mask who had a gun in his pocket threatened to blow her head off and demanded money. She turned over an unspecified amount of cash from the register, and the suspect ran out.
