Milton Twp. sewer project needs more funds

LAKE MILTON -- A few more pieces need to fall into place before a long-awaited water and sewer project is completed.
At their meeting Tuesday, Milton Township trustees were told that the sewer portion of the project needs about $2.1 million of additional funding. Trustee Sue Lemmon said officials intend to seek grants from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
Lemmon said portions of Southeast River and Ellsworth roads need sewer lines. They will feature mandatory tap-ins, meaning residents will have to get rid of their septic tanks, she added.
The waterline project could be finished in six to 12 months, Lemmon said. The Webb Road pumping station in Austintown needs larger pumps to supply more water to a new water tower in the township, she added.
Lemmon also praised Nick Bellas, township zoning inspector, for going after property owners who violate zoning ordinances. She cited the example of a Milton Township man who was fined $1,000 for repeated noncompliance.
