Thursday, May 19, 2005

YOUNGSTOWN -- Damaris Peters Pike will perform as Gertrude Lawrence in "A Star Danced" at a lunchtime event Monday in the Stambaugh Auditorium Marble Room. Reservations are due Friday. It's the seventh in Pike's "Women of Note" series.
The actress portrays the British Gertrude Lawrence, who was a friend of Noel Coward and who achieved stardom on both sides of the Atlantic.
The costume will be a copy of the lavish gown Lawrence wore for the ball scene in "The King and I," in which she was the original Anna at the time of her death in 1952.
The event begins at 11 a.m. with a light lunch with the artist, followed by the performance at noon. Cost is $20, payable to Stambaugh Pillars by Friday. For more information, call (330) 533-5225 or (330) 747-5175.
