HOUSE BILL
Area projects
A transportation bill passed the U.S. Senate on Tuesday. The U.S. House earlier passed its version of the bill, which included approximately $21.8 million in funding for several Mahoning Valley projects. The Senate bill does not contain funding for specific projects, and the issue is likely to be sticky as House and Senate members try to negotiate a compromise bill. The House bill included:
$3 million to expand the National Packard Museum and renovate the Packard Music Hall in Warren.
$2.5 million for design and construction of roads and safety improvements at Youngstown State University.
$2 million to construct access improvements to Interstate 680 and internal roads for the Mahoning River Corridor of Opportunity.
$1.5 million for the Warren Riverwalk.
$1 million for improvements to the state Routes 46 and 82 intersection in Howland.
$200,000 for the Niles Trumbull Transit System.
$5 million for the Wellsville freight intermodal shipping facility.
$2.5 million to widen state Route 170 in Calcutta Township, Columbiana County.
$2.5 million to widen Western Reserve Road in Mahoning County.
$1 million in improvements to state Route 14 and Washingtonville Road in Columbiana County.
$500,000 for additions to the MetroParks bikeway in Mahoning County.
$120,000 for improvements to Rutledge Transfer Road in Vernon Township, Trumbull County.
