PREP ROUNDUP Div. IV Maplewood defeats Richmond Heights

Mooney needed 10 innings to slip past Struthers.
EUCLID -- The Maplewood High baseball team used five straight singles in the bottom of the third inning to score four runs and it went on to post a 5-3 victory over Richmond Heights in a Division IV district semifinal baseball game Monday at Euclid High School.
The Rockets (17-6) will play Fairport Harbor (20-6) today at 7:30 p.m. in the district championship game.
The Rockets trailed 2-0 when Michael Dutchon led off the third with a single. The next four batters -- Jared Partridge, winning pitcher Jake Abbott (6-0), Doug Vida and Brian Roberts -- all singled to produce four runs.
Maplewood scored another run in the fifth as Vida singled and Craig Clemson doubled him home.
Richmond Heights ended its season with a 16-7 record.
Mooney 5, Niles 4
STRUTHERS -- With one out in the bottom of the 10th inning, the Cardinals' (19-3) Shane Gallager singled home Joe Irwin with the winning run at Cene Park.
Irwin went 3-for-5 and scored three times. Kevin Drummond was also 3-for-5 with an RBI and Gallager went 2-for-4 and scored once.
The Red Dragons' (15-11) Sean Cleary went 3-for-5 with a triple. He scored once and drove in a run.
Akron Hoban 8, Salem 2
AKRON -- Hoban built a 5-1 lead by the end of the third inning.
Grant Sevek paced Salem with two hits and he drove in two runs.
Mogadore 4, Southeast 3
MOGADORE -- The Pirates (3-19) were led by Greg Lemley with a double and single. Cory Brown and Richard Hedrick each hit a pair of singles.
Softball
NORTH LIMA -- Kaili Gehring had three hits and pitched a complete-game four-hitter to lead Mineral Ridge High to a 7-2 win over South Range in an Inter-County League game.
Two of Gehring's (11-6) hits were doubles. She also struck out seven. Melanie Sparks, Katie Garland and January Golden all had two hits for the Rams (14-11, 7-5 ICL). Sparks and Chelsea Fridley also had doubles.
South Range is 6-14, 4-8.
