Man faces up to 2 years for domestic violence

Tuesday, May 10, 2005

YOUNGSTOWN -- A Youngstown man faces up to two years in prison for committing domestic violence against a woman last year.
Charles Clark, 47, of Fairgreen Avenue, pleaded guilty to the charge Monday before Judge R. Scott Krichbaum of Mahoning County Common Pleas Court.
Judge Krichbaum delayed sentencing pending completion of a report by the Ohio Adult Parole Authority. The victim also will be allowed to make a statement at the sentencing.
Domestic violence, a third-degree felony, carries a penalty of one to five years in prison and a fine of $10,000.
Clark pleaded guilty to the charge after a plea-bargain agreement was reached between Clark's lawyer Ronald Yarwood, and Dawn Krueger, an assistant county prosecutor.
The plea agreement calls for Clark to spend two years in prison, and the state would not oppose the judge granting judicial release, formerly called shock probation.
Police records show the domestic violence occurred at a Youngstown residence Dec. 21, 2004. A county grand jury returned an indictment against Clark on the charge in January.
Records show he committed the crime while on parole, and he could face further sanctions by the APA.
