YSU TENNIS Peretti scores Golden Set



PITTSBURGH -- Youngstown State University tennis player Gina Peretti of Boardman pulled off a tennis rarity on Tuesday against Duquesne, winning a Golden Set in her 6-0, 6-0 win over Andrea Sailer at the Oxford Athletic Club.
A Golden Set is when a player wins a set without dropping a point (26 consecutive points)
Still, the Penguins came up short losing 5-2 to the Dukes.
YSU's other point came at No. 5 singles where Emily Thayer beat Alicia McNamara 6-2, 6-3.
In other singles action, Duquesne's Johanna Bezjak beat Karen Najbert at No. 1, 7-5, 6-7, 10-5; at No. 2, the Dukes' Jackie Hughes beat Whitney Thomas 6-4, 6-4; at No. 4, DU's Sarah Shanahan beat Nicole Muzechuk 6-3, 6-4; and at No. 6 singles, Duquesne's Ciara McDermott beat Krystle Hively 7-5, 7-5.
In doubles play, YSU won at No. 1 as Najbert and Peretti won 8-5 over Hughes and McNamara. Duquesne won at No. 2 as Bezjak and Wagner beat Thomas and Fuleky, 8-4 and won at No. 3 with Shanahan and McDermott beating Thayer and Muzechuk, 8-1.
The Penguins return to action on Saturday when they travel to UW-Milwaukee.
