Project time line
It has been a tedious process to get water and sanitary sewer lines to the Lake Milton area. Here are some of the things involved in that process:
August 1998: Public meeting on bringing utilities to Lake Milton.
October 1998: Initial feasibility study completed by Lake Milton Utilities Committee.
December 1998: Initial funding application submitted to U.S. Department of Agriculture.
January 1999: Mahoning County submits project nomination application to USDA.
March 1999: Project planning document sent to USDA.
October 1999: Former Congressman James A. Traficant Jr. requests $1 million for the improvements.
June 2000: Guidelines for preliminary engineering report sent to the county.
September 2000: Comment letter from USDA on the preliminary engineering report.
October 2000: USDA sends notification of environmental review for the project.
November 2000: Bulk-water agreement executed with city of Youngstown.
December 2000: Preliminary engineering report submitted to USDA.
January 2001: Notice of EPA grant to Mahoning County for the project.
March 2001: Revised preliminary engineering report.
May 2001: Approval of preliminary engineering report.
August 2001: Final draft of engineering report submitted to USDA.
October 2001: USDA requests comments and information on project.
November 2001: County responds to USDA request.
February 2002: USDA approved revised engineering report for sanitary sewer projects, and an addendum to the report is made to include work in Craig Beach Village.
August 2002: County commissioners sign request for financial assistance.
September 2002: Press release saying USDA commits funding for the Lake Milton improvements.
