TRUMBULL COMMISSIONERS
Other action
Trumbull County commissioners approved several measures Wednesday. Commissioner James Tsagaris was absent:
Paying for renovating and furnishing the Trumbull County Health Department by issuing a $188,000 bond. The county already has spent $37,000 to patch up the Chestnut Street building roof and to remove toxic mold from the basement. The front steps crumbled and windows let in water. Health department workers continue working in the building while renovations are under way.
Permanently eliminating six nonunion jobs April 15 in what had been the Senior Rights and Advocacy office, now part of the county Department of Job and Family Services. There's a new $24,000 contract between Job and Family Services and Guardianship and Protective Services Inc., 197 W. Market St., using federal funds for protective services for adults. Job and Family Services last year agreed to take over as administrative agent for the seven-employee Senior Rights Advocacy office, which by November had fallen behind in billing and closed. With the Senior Rights Advocacy office now reorganized, the workers will become the employees of the private agency.
Scheduling public hearing at 7 p.m. May 3 at the Brookfield Administration Building, for Brookfield Township Center South sanitary sewer improvements. Trumbull County will receive $428,000 from the Ohio Department of Development to bring sewer lines to 28 township households. The target area is an Ohio Environmental Protection Agency "unsewered area of concern" and includes a part of state Route 7, all of Wood Street, and Strimbu Drive leading to the township administration building. The project's total cost is $857,000 and involves installation of 6,300 feet of sewer lines. The difference will be made up with county revolving loan fund dollars and state Issue 2 funds.
Approving the Keefer Road and Tibbetts Wick waterline improvements, which will bring Girard water to 57 Liberty Township residences that now have well water, and nine businesses. Cost is $867,255, with $598,405 sought from state Issue 2 funds, $213,000 shared between Girard and Trumbull County and $55,465 from Liberty. Commissioners, along with Girard, applied to the Ohio Public Works Commission for funding; this waterline would extend from Goist Lane to Tibbetts Wick along Keefer Road, then east along Tibbetts Wick to state Route 193 (Belmont Avenue). There are waterlines at each end of the proposed connection. From there, he said, officials hope to eventually run water to the Tibbetts Wick-Route 11 interchange in a future phase of work.
