Proceeds will benefit the Oakland and the WIMFest.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Oakland Center for the Arts, 220 W. Boardman St., downtown, will host "A Night of Women's Music" on April 2.
The event will begin with a wine and cheese reception at 7. All proceeds will benefit the Oakland and the Women's International Music Festival.
Emcee for the night will be Youngstown's Elizabeth Rubino, who will also perform contemporary hits as a soloist.
Rubino has performed in more than 80 productions statewide. She has been involved at the Oakland, Youngstown Playhouse, Easy Street, Actors Project, Earshot Productions, Kaliope Theater (Cleveland's newest professional venue), and Worthington Theater in Columbus, among others. She owns and directs Center Stage Performance and Productions, teaches drama through SMARTS and the JCC, and is a private vocal instructor.
The winner of the 1997 National Soloist Award in Boston, she currently majors in theater at Youngstown State University and will be studying in Florence, Italy, this summer.
Music artists
Performers for the night include Robin Stone, Alexis Antes and Abby Williams.
Stone, a native of Cleveland, has grown from singer/songwriter, to an explosive full band, to record label owner, to producer. She mixes doses of neo-soul, funk and jazz with her acoustic guitar, bass, drums, percussion, cello, and a touch of horns. She has shared bills with Bonnie Raitt, Jewel, James Taylor, Melissa Ferrick and many other artists. She also performs regularly at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and is recording material for her third album, which will follow her 2001 release, "My Heart," and her 2003 release, "RushMore."
Antes, also of Cleveland, taught herself guitar at 12, was a founding member of the folk/pop group Odd Girl Out, and has become a skilled singer/songwriter as a solo artist. She has released two albums, "Stronger," in 1998, and in 2003, "All Come Down." She performed for the Lilith Fair at Blossom Music Center in 1998.
Williams, of Dayton, has taught music at the college level for 15 years, is an accomplished acoustic guitarist, and plays and teaches bass. She has been a performance artist for 20 years and travels extensively across the United States and Canada to promote the women's music festival circuit.
