NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Beginning next week, Lawrence County commissioners will take county issues on the road.
Commissioners will conduct public meetings the last Tuesday of every month in different municipalities throughout the county. The sessions will be in the evenings in lieu of the commissioners' regular weekly public meeting, which are typically Tuesdays at 10 a.m. at the Lawrence County Government Center.
The night meetings are expected to continue for eight months with the first session scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Wayne Township Municipal Building on Route 288, Ellwood-Wampum Road.
Began last year
Last year, at the request of several county residents, commissioners held monthly night meetings in different locations through spring and summer. They said they wanted to give area residents who work during the day an opportunity to attend county meetings at night.
"And it's nice to be able to go to the different communities and bring the county to the people there," said Commissioner Steve Craig. "We received positive response and we wanted to start [the meetings] up again this year."
Tuesday's agenda will include a discussion on Phase II of the Riverview Commerce Park Redevelopment Proposal. Commissioners will consider whether to allow the county to continue pursuing plans to redevelop the West Side area of New Castle, a project the city and county have been looking at for the past eight years.
