Judge sets $750K bondfor murder suspect
YOUNGSTOWN -- Bond was set Wednesday at $750,000 for Anthony J. Mobley, 23, of South Jackson Street, who is charged with aggravated murder.
Municipal Judge Elizabeth A. Kobly scheduled a preliminary hearing for March 31. Mobley is accused in the shooting death of Nathaniel Freeman, 26, of Youngstown. Freeman was shot four times in the 200 block of Wayne Avenue on Monday. Mobley was captured Tuesday in Austintown.
Mercer courthouse workers to get badges
MERCER, Pa. -- Courthouse employees will soon begin wearing identification badges, Mercer County commissioners said Tuesday at their chief clerk's meeting.
One reason for requiring badges is to help employees recognize one another, something that is difficult with 370 employees working in 12 separate buildings, said Bill Boyle, director of administrative services.
The badges also will help identify employees to members of the public who need help and directions, commissioners said.
Security is not the main issue in requiring the badges, commissioners emphasized.
However, the courthouse closed several weeks ago and temporarily used metal detectors to screen those entering after a bomb threat. The investigation into that episode continues.
Sheriff Bill Romine and District Attorney James Epstein recently called for tighter security measures at the courthouse.
Youth job fair scheduled
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning and Columbiana Training Associations' Youth Development Training Center is sponsoring its first Mahoning Valley Youth Job Fair, for those ages 18 to 25 who have a serious interest in entering the work force.
The job fair will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 1 in the conference room of the Renaissance Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave.
The job fair's purpose is to give local businesses the opportunity to recruit workers, allow employers to fulfill entry-level and/or seasonal employment, introduce participants to the local job market and increase awareness of available resources in work-force development.

Struther collects clothes
STRUTHERS -- The city is collecting clothes for Planet Aid, a nonprofit group dedicated to improving lives of people in developing countries.
Besides recyclables, people can drop off used clothing and shoes at the Struthers Recycling Center next to the street department garage behind city hall at 6 Elm St.
Hours are 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The clothes are resold to raise funds for development projects such as schools, health programs or HIV/AIDS prevention in Africa, Asia and Central America.

Free ID kits for children
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Arts and Entertainment District Association is sponsoring an event to provide free identification kits for children, blood pressure screening and other information.
The event will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday at the former Phar-Mor building, 20 Federal Place.
Hot line to train helpers
YOUNGSTOWN -- Help Hotline Crisis Center, the county's "One Number" to call for information, referral, crisis intervention or suicide prevention is offering free training classes for persons interested in volunteering for the 24-hour hot line.
Classes will meet from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., for five Mondays, beginning April 25; and one Saturday, on June 4, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Volunteers are asked to make a six-month commitment.
