Background
The purpose of the nonprofit group is to educate garden clubs, the public and youth in civic beautification, conservation, horticulture, flower arranging and garden therapy. Composed of 48 garden clubs, it was the first garden forum in the United States when it was formed in 1930.
As a beautification project in 1934, members started planting and selling the flowering crab, which became the official tree of Youngstown in 1945. The forum opened the first garden center in Fellows in 1963.
