CityScenes contest now under way

Prizes of up to $1,000 will be awarded.
YOUNGSTOWN -- The second annual CityScenes photography competition, co-sponsored by Youngstown State University and the Regional Chamber, is now accepting entries.
This year's theme is "Places and Spaces" and emphasizes community pride.
The competition is open to professional, nonprofessional and high school student photographers. College students may enter as nonprofessionals.
Winning entries will be displayed in the Rose Marie Smith Gallery on the second floor of Tod Hall from Sept. 15, 2005, until Sept. 1, 2006.
Entries will be accepted until Aug. 5, and entrants will be notified of results by mail during the week of Aug. 22.
This year's selection committee is looking for photographs that feature day or night scenes of architecturally unique buildings and structures, skylines, nature or seasons. The Regional Chamber is particularly interested in having access to positive images of the Valley that can be used in promotional materials and sent to media outlets. Proper photo credit will be given for any photograph used in this way.
The first-prize award for a professional entry is $1,000; for nonprofessional, $500; and for student, $250. In addition, a $500 purchase prize will be awarded for a photograph selected by YSU President David Sweet. The winning photograph will become part of the university's permanent collection.
Entry fees
Any photographic process is acceptable. All work, which can be pre-existing or specifically created for the contest, must be original and not violate any copyright. Artists are responsible for securing permission from any clearly recognizable person whose photograph was taken in any context other than a public gathering.
All entries must be in slide or 5x7 print format. Framing is not required.
The entry fees are as follows: professional, $15 per entry; nonprofessional, $10 per entry; and high school student, $5 per entry. There is a limit of three entries per artist.
Last year's exhibit, "Neighborhoods: Where Our People Live," will be on display in Tod Hall's Rose Marie Smith Gallery on the YSU campus through mid-August.
