Friday, March 18, 2005

YOUNGSTOWN -- A Mahoning County grand jury returned indictments Thursday against a man and woman on separate murder charges.
The jurors indicted Charles E. Lynch, 27, of Chicago Avenue. Police have accused him of the drive-by shooting March 5 that resulted in the death of Martin Walker III, 32, of South Truesdale Avenue. Police said Walker was found at 9:30 p.m. in front of F & amp;N Market, 1349 Shehy St., on the city's East Side.
The grand jurors also indicted Runako Stroud, 33, of Woodcrest Avenue, who is charged with stabbing Alvin Montgomery, 48, same address, at the home the evening of March 8.
The maximum penalty for murder is 15 years to life imprisonment.
Lynch's indictment also carries a firearm specification, which means if convicted he must serve a mandatory three-year prison term before serving one day of his sentence on the murder charge. His maximum sentence, therefore, would be 18 years to life.
Rape case
The grand jury also returned an indictment against Donald R. Taylor, 47, of Bryson Street, on charges of rape of a child under 13, kidnapping and gross sexual imposition.
He is charged with kidnapping, having sexual contact with and raping a 6-year-old girl Feb. 18.
Rape of a child under 13 under threat of force carries a penalty of life imprisonment. Kidnapping carries a maximum 10-year prison term, and the maximum prison sentence for gross sexual imposition is five years.
