Ellis presents trustees with mementos of Kosovo

AUSTINTOWN -- Police Chief Gordon Ellis, who this month returned from nearly a year in Kosovo with the Ohio Army National Guard, presented trustees Monday with mementos from his service.
At a township trustees meeting, Ellis, who officially returns to the police department next month, gave trustees a plaque from the largest city in one of Kosovo areas where he served.
Upon learning of his civilian job, the city's leaders gave the plaque, bearing the city's name, to Ellis to present to trustees, the chief said.
Ellis, a lieutenant colonel, remains on military duty until April. In Kosovo he was a commander in Task Force Shield, a peacekeeping force.
The chief also gave trustees a flag, encased in glass, that had flown over Camp Monteith, where troops were stationed upon his arrival.
"I appreciate all of the support I received from the township and the letters and cards from the people of Austintown," he said.
