Weathersfield Township trustees approve disposal site law

Saturday, March 12, 2005

MINERAL RIDGE -- Weathersfield Township trustees have approved an amendment to the township zoning laws setting new regulations for construction and demolition debris disposal sites.
Although the township doesn't have such disposal locations, the new language was added as a precaution so that the township will have a zoning provision in place to govern debris dumps should anyone want to open one.
The new regulations will go into effect in a month, said Sherri Craver, township zoning inspector.
The dumps only can be operated in industrial districts and can be no closer than 1,000 feet from any residence, commercial school or religious building and no closer than one mile from any environmentally "natural" area, including areas established for scientific, recreational or educational purposes and Ohio Department of Natural Resources designated "wetlands."
The dumps cannot contaminate nearby water supplies, and cannot create a nuisance, hazard or pollute or allow water run-off to adjacent properties.
No hazardous materials will be accepted at the sites, which can only be operated between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Friday.
