YOUNGSTOWN -- Christina L. Secrest of Salem won half of the $110,000 Rolling Cash 5 jackpot for matching five numbers in the March 9 drawing. She filed a claim in the Youngstown regional office Thursday.
After federal and state tax withholdings totaling 28.5 percent, Secrest will receive $39,325.
She picked her own numbers. The winning numbers were 13-22-25-31-36.
Secrest purchased the winning ticket at Salem Lottery Express, 2284 E. State St., Salem. Salem Lottery Express receives $500 for selling a winning ticket.
The holder of the other winning ticket -- sold at Holland Oil, 10216 Northfield Road, Northfield -- has not come forward to claim the prize.
Radio club raising funds
CANFIELD -- The 20/9 Amateur Radio Club will have a fund-raising spaghetti dinner from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the I.O.O.F. Hall, 111 S. Broad St., with proceeds used to buy a communications trailer for the club.
Tickets are $6 for adults; $3 for children 12 and under. Takeout dinners are available. A bake sale and raffles also will be conducted.
Theft suspect arrested
STRUTHERS -- Police arrested a Struthers man Thursday less than 30 minutes after he was accused of taking a Youngstown woman's purse from a shopping cart in a grocery store parking lot.
A caller said he saw a man take a purse from a cart in the parking lot of Nemenz IGA on Creed Street, according to a police report.
The report said her purse contained $600 in cash and some credit cards.
Witnesses said that a white male wearing a gray pullover sweatshirt grabbed the purse from the shopping cart and ran.
The woman said that she didn't see the man remove the purse and had gone back into the store, thinking she had left the purse inside.
Struthers police arrested Justine M. Eicher, 19, after he returned to the store parking lot. He took them to his home, where police recovered the purse and the missing items.
Legacy open enrollment
YOUNGSTOWN -- Legacy Academy will have open enrollment for the 2005-06 school year beginning Monday and continuing through March 24.
Applications will be accepted for pupils in kindergarten through eighth grade from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The following documents are required for each child: birth certificate, Social Security card, immunization record, verification of grade level and custody information, if applicable.
It will not be necessary for parents of current pupils to apply during open enrollment; they will automatically be enrolled for next year. Notification of registration for current pupils will be provided at a later time.
Event to welcome troops
LEETONIA -- A welcome-home assembly for recently returning military personnel will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Leetonia High School.
Servicemen and women, not limited to Leetonia graduates or residents, are invited to attend by calling (330) 427-2115, Ext. 3102.
The public also is invited to the assembly and is asked to wear red, white and blue, if possible, and bring a donation for the PTO's "Support our Troops" project.
Pre-packaged food items, personnel hygiene items, one-time-use cameras and toys to be used as gifts are suggested.
Cancer awareness dinner
WARREN -- Alliance Community Outreach Program Inc. is planning a dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the ACOP Center, 2051 Niles Road S.E.
March is colorectal cancer awareness month, and blacks are at risk for this and other serious and often fatal diseases. The dinner will feature a cooking demonstration by a black chef to emphasize the importance of introducing healthful cooking within the churches.
This is a free program paid by a grant through the American Cancer Society and Humility of Mary Health Partners.
