Edwards back to Iraq
Marine Corps Sgt. Dustin E. Edwards, son of Brenda Powell of Girard and retired Gunnery Sgt. Richard R. McNeely of Virginia Beach, Va., is serving his second tour in Iraq with the 2nd Light Armored Reconnaissance Battalion for a seven-month deployment, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Edwards' duties include training the Iraqi military and keeping accountability of more than 400 Marines and all weapons and vehicles.
Edwards is a 1998 graduate of Girard High School and joined the Marine Corps in June 1998.
Hayes hits Hawaii
Army Spec. Billy J. Hayes has returned to Schofield Barracks, Wahiawa, Hawaii, after a deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
The soldier was one of more than 270 troops of the 84th Engineer Battalion deployed.
Hayes, a generator mechanic, has five years of military service.
He is the son of Floyd O. and Nancy L. Hayes of
Greenville, Pa. His wife, Julie, is the daughter of Dione Koehne of Greenville.
ADVANCED TRAINING
Fighter pilot graduation
Air Force 2nd Lt. John D. MacRae, son of Thomas S. and Julia R. MacRae of Grove City, Pa., has graduated from the Euro-NATO Joint Jet Pilot Training program conducted by the 80th Flying Training Wing at Sheppard Air Force Base, Wichita Falls, Texas.
The 55-week training program, sponsored by NATO, is designed to produce pilots qualified for assignment to military fighter aircraft as part of NATO's flying force. The multinational program trains about 250 pilots from the U.S. and 13 participating NATO nations each year.
MacRae is a 1999 graduate of Grove City High School, and received a bachelor's degree in 2003 from the U.S. Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo.
Fuel supply specialist
Army Reserve Pvt. Camehia S. Barrington, daughter of Avis A. Barrington of Farrell, Pa., has graduated from the petroleum supply specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.
The course is designed to train students in receipt, storage, issue, shipping, and distribution of petroleum, oil and lubricant products used by the Army. Training included instruction in petroleum and water accounting, operating equipment associated with fuels and water distribution; and fueling and defueling operations and procedures on vehicles, aircraft and stationary equipment.
Barrington is a 2004 graduate of Farrell Area High School.
Combat courses
Army Spc. Scott E. Stiffler, son of Patty and Edward Stiffler of Warren, has graduated from basic combat military training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.
During the eight weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission and received instruction in drill and ceremonies, rifle marksmanship, weapons, map reading, tactics, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, Army history, core values and traditions, and special training in human relations.
The specialist is a 1996 graduate of Howland High School, Warren, and a 2001 graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.
Aviation safety
Marine Corps Pfc. Robert G. Bussard, son of Cindy A. and Robert G. Bussard of Columbiana, recently completed the Aviation Structural Mechanic Safety Equipment Course.
During the course with Marine Aviation Training Support Group 21, Naval Air Training Command, Pensacola, Fla., students receive instruction on documentation of maintenance forms, schematic interpretation, aviation publications, fuels, oils, lubrication, corrosion control and preservation of aircraft.
Bussard is a 2004 graduate of Beaver Local High School and joined the Marine Corps in June 2004.
