UTILITY PROJECT Boardman hopes for more stormwater work
More than $800,000 in projects have been done or are in the works.
BOARDMAN -- The township administrator will ask for trustees' authorization next week to complete four more stormwater projects.
Township officials developed a list of projects aimed at alleviating flooding problems about a year and a half ago -- when heavy rains in the summer of 2003 saturated yards, covered roads and seeped into basements.
Some projects have been identified as regional, some the township can do using its own funds. Others are being done by Mahoning County or neighboring jurisdictions and still others will require state grants.
"In a year and a half, $876,690 in projects have been done or are in progress," said Administrator Curt B. Seditz. "I think that's pretty good progress."
The projects
At a Monday trustees meeting, Seditz will request authorization to start four more projects: pipe replacement on Fredricksburg Drive, which will cost about $8,000; storm sewer upgrade in Ridgewood Estates, $50,000; a storm sewer pipe modification on Tam-O-Shanter Drive, $15,000; and improvements to the storm sewer on Stratmore Drive, $10,000.
The Tam-O-Shanter project will be completed in conjunction with Youngstown City Schools' upgrade at Paul C. Bunn School.
The Ridgewood Estates upgrade will require engineering design before work begins.
Projects that require state funding carry a steeper dollar figure.
The upgrade at Market Street school, submitted for state Issue 2 funding this year, was estimated at $500,000. The project wasn't picked for funding.
"We'll try again next year," Seditz said.
Completed projects include a $82,425 storm upgrade from East Parkside to Spring Park and miscellaneous ditch clearing through the township for $10,000.
Ohio Department of Transportation also is conducting a $15,000 study of drainage on Route 7 from Western Reserve Road to U.S. 224 that's aimed at addressing water woes.
