Trustees raise cemetery costs
POLAND -- The cost of dying has gone up in Poland Township.
Township trustees approved the first increase in cemetery fees in four years at their Tuesday meeting. The fees to buy a grave plot and to open and close a grave both increased from $350 to $450. Fees for cremation increased from $150 to $250. Trustees also voted to increase the overtime or weekend fees for burial from $450 to $600 and for cremation from $250 to $300, township administrator Jim Scharville said.
Trustees also approved the purchase of a new John Deere mowing tractor.
In other business, trustees rejected three requests to rezone land at Western Reserve and North Lima roads from estate to Town 1 (small retail). The requests involved four parcels totaling about three acres, Scharville said.
