Course: The Country Club at Mirasol, Sunrise Course (7,468 yards, par 72).
Purse: $5.5 million. Winner's share: $990,000.
Television: USA (Thursday-Friday, 4-6 p.m.) and NBC (Saturday-Sunday, 3-6 p.m.).
Last year: Todd Hamilton won his first PGA Tour title at age 38, birdieing the final two holes for a one-stroke victory over Davis Love III. Hamilton won the British Open in July and was selected the tour's rookie of the year.
Last week: Tiger Woods won a dramatic duel with Phil Mickelson in the Ford Championship at Doral to take the top spot in world ranking from Vijay Singh. Woods made a 30-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to take the lead, then a 6-foot par putt to close with a 6-under 66 and hold off Mickelson by a stroke for his second victory of the year. Woods finished at 24-under 264 to break the tournament record by a stroke.
Notes: Singh, coming off a third-place tie at Doral, tops the field along with Love, David Toms, Jim Furyk, Fred Couples, Robert Allenby, Justin Leonard and European Ryder Cup players Padraig Harrington and Ian Poulter. Nick Faldo and Paul Azinger, in their first season as ABC color commentators, also are playing. ... Leonard won the 2003 tournament on Mirasol's Sunset Course, finishing with a tournament-record 24-under 264 total. ... Matt Kuchar won his first tour title in the 2002 event at the TPC at Heron Bay. ... The tour will remain in Florida the next two weeks for the Bay Hill Invitational in Orlando and The Players Championship in Ponte Vedra Beach.

CHAMPIONS TOUR
SBC Classic
Site: Santa Clarita, Calif.
Valencia, Calif.
Schedule: Friday-Sunday.
Course: Valencia Country Club (6,905 yards, par 72).
Purse: $1.55 million. Winner's share: $225,000.
Television: The Golf Channel (Friday-Sunday, 6-8:30 p.m., 10 p.m.-midnight).
Last year: Gil Morgan won the tournament for the third time, edging Larry Nelson by two strokes. Morgan won the 1996 and 1997 events at Wilshire Country Club.
Last event: Hale Irwin won his tour-record 42nd title, beating Morris Hatalsky by a stroke Feb. 28 in the rain-delayed Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am. The 59-year-old Irwin also won the Turtle Bay Championship in late January.
Notes: Irwin has won at least two tournaments in each of his 11 seasons on the 50-and-over tour. In addition to his two victories this year, the three-time U.S. Open winner tied for third in the season-opening MasterCard Championship and tied for second in The ACE Group Classic. ... Tom Purtzer won the rain-shortened 2003 tournament, holing a 60-foot eagle putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory over Morgan. ... Billy Mayfair beat Tiger Woods in a playoff at Valencia in the 1998 Nissan Open. ... Joe Inman swept the 1998-00 events at Wilshire Country Club. ... The Toshiba Senior Classic is next week in Newport Beach.

Next event: Safeway International, March 17-20, Superstition Mountain Golf and Country Club, Superstition Mountain, Ariz.
Last week: Annika Sorenstam rallied to win her first event of the year, closing with a 4-under 68 in windy conditions for a three-stroke victory over Karrie Webb in the inaugural MasterCard Classic in Mexico. Sorenstam has 57 LPGA Tour titles.
