25 inducted into military Hall of Valor
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- The late actor James Stewart and 24 other veterans were inducted into the Hall of Valor at the Soldiers & amp; Sailors National Military Museum on Sunday.
Stewart, of Indiana, received the Distinguished Flying Cross with Oak Leaf Cluster in WWII.
The class includes 19 WWII veterans, one veteran each from the Spanish-American War, World War I and the Korean War, and three from the Vietnam War.
The Hall of Valor, dedicated in 1963 to honor veterans of Allegheny County for valor "above and beyond the call of duty," was opened to all southwestern Pennsylvania veterans in 2000. More than 400 veterans, including one woman, have been honored.
Besides Stewart, the inductees were Leroy Bloom, Pittsburgh; Charles H. Booth Jr., New Kensington; the late Alvin P. Carey, Ligonier; Harold E. Dougherty, Penn Hills; John P. Eichmiller Jr., Pittsburgh; the late John L. Fleming, Grove City; the late John T. Hamilton, Allison Park; the late Robert W. Hockelberg, Indiana; the late John Hotkowski, Pittsburgh; the late Joseph Lubas, Johnstown; Leonard H. Marinaccio, Pittsburgh; Charles W. McKeever, Greensburg; the late Louis Rodriguez, Ambridge.
Also inducted were Robert E. Rutter, North Braddock; the late Joseph Daniel Sanko, Footedale: the late Warren Shepherd, Cherry Tree; William C. Sommer Jr., Harrisburg; Michael E. Stephan, Pittsburgh; Frederick M. Tate, Pittsburgh; James A. Theys, Cranberry; Ernest M. Williams, Sewickley; George C. Yates, Canonsburg; and the late Edward A. Zolnierzak, Allegheny County.
