'Raymond' co-star to perform at benefit
YOUNGSTOWN -- Brad Garrett, who plays Robert on the hit sitcom "Everybody Loves Raymond," will perform at the Community Corrections Association's annual spring benefit May 19.
The event takes place 7:30 p.m. at Powers Auditorium, 260 Federal Plaza West. To reserve tickets, call (330) 744-5143.
Winning artists
WARREN -- Don Wright's "Dance Land" watercolor took home the best-in-show prize at the opening of the Trumbull Area Artists' show at the Trumbull Art Gallery last week.
Terri Madden won first place with another watercolor, "Pipers Pepper"; Jo Hodos was second with "Arm Signals," an oil; and John Phillips was third with "Horse Head," a wood sculpture.
This is the second TAA show, "Celebration." With 110 pieces entered and 72 accepted for the show will run through April 2. The gallery is at 196-198 E. Market St.
Hours are, noon-4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
Cathy Welner, an Akron artist and art teacher, made the awards selection.
Velvet Revolver, Sum 41 tours
CLEVELAND -- Pop-punk group Sum 41 and rock supergroup Velvet Revolver each will perform this spring at Tower City Amphitheater.
Sum 41, touring to promote its newest album, "Chuck," will play 7:30 p.m. April 15 along with opening acts Unwritten Law and Hawthorne Heights. General admission tickets are on sale at all Ticketmaster outlets. Tickets are $20 in advance and $23 day of show.
Velvet Revolver, which includes former Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland and former Guns 'N' Roses members, will perform at Tower City 7:30 p.m. May 17. The group, which recently won a Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance, is touring behind its debut album, "Contraband."
Opening act is Hoobastank. General admission tickets are onsale at Ticketmaster locations. Tickets are $39.50 in advance and $42 day of show.
Crue reunion comes to Pittsburgh
PITTSBURGH -- In case you missed them in Cleveland, you now have a second shot at seeing the bad boys of Motley Crue. Tickets are on sale for the band's reunion tour stop at the Post-Gazette Pavilion Aug. 30.
The 80s rock band -- legendary both for its music and its relentless debauchery -- is in the midst of a worldwide tour, having reunited and released "Red, White & amp; Crue," a greatest-hits anthology that features three new songs recorded since the reunion.
Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show -- $20 for lawn, $35 and $75 for reserved seating -- are available at Ticketmaster outlets.
Paranormal expert to lecture at YSU
YOUNGSTOWN -- Joe Nickell, a senior research fellow of the Committee for the Scientific Investigation of Claims of the Paranormal, will speak Thursday in the Chestnut Room of the Kilcawley Center at Youngstown State University.
His talk, titled "My Adventures with the Paranormal and Miracles," will take place at 12:30 p.m.
Canfield Rock Fest II
CANFIELD -- The band "Made in Canada" and Get Out of Town Records present the second Canfield Rock Fest April 9 at the Grange, off Fairground Boulevard.
"Made in Canada" is a four-piece pop-punk band from Canfield. Its members, Paul Quillin, Klynt Maston, Dom Monteneri and Adam Fill, formed the band nearly four years ago. They have released an 11-track CD "Can't Win'em All" and a three-track EP, "Get Out of Town."
Canfield Rock Fest is an all-day event, starting around 1 p.m. April 9 and going until 11 p.m. Bands included are Ten Count Fall, Lesser Known Fame, Name Sake, Minkus, Burning for Beauty, Lady Fantasy, Fanstab Chicago, Made in Canada and others.
Admission is $3.
Free folk concert
BOARDMAN -- The Cecinka Folk Group from the School of Arts, Bratislava, Slovakia, will perform a free show at 7 p.m April 16 at the Boardman Middle School. The group includes 36 dancers, singers and musicians from 11 to 16 years old. Tickets will be available starting March 15 at various stores.
