Pavlik stops Dorian in 2nd round

The middleweight decked his opponent twice.
CHOCTAW, Miss. -- Youngstown middleweight Kelly Pavlik's first showing on Showtime's ShoBox "The New Generation" Friday night was as impressive as it could be.
Pavlik, showing brutalizing right hand power, floored Dorian 'The Quiet Storm" Beaupierre twice in the first two rounds before the referee stopped the scheduled 10-rounder at 2 minutes, 35 seconds of the second round.
Pavlik (24-0) earned his 21st knockout in a patient and working manner that had the crowd in the Silver Star Casino and Hotel roaring with its approval.
Beaupierre (12-3-2), of Rahway, N.J., had never been on the canvas as a professional fighter. Pavlik worked his left jab looking for an opening as Beaupierre landed some left hooks and short rights. Pavlik, though, found his opening, exploding a chopping right to his opponent's jaw, sending Beaupierre down for an eight count with just over a minute remaining in the first round.
Second round
In no apparent hurry to finish off his opponent, Pavlik went back to the jab early in the second round, landing short shots to the head and body as Beaupierre was trying to come on with his own combination attack.
Suddenly, Pavlik, with an explosive straight right, sent Beaupierre down again. He came up at the end of the eight count, but couldn't withstand Pavlik's two-handed barrage.
"I sure didn't expect to get him this early" said Pavlik.
"Openings were there for me," he added. "They were openings that I created by being patient and taking a little step to the right just as he was ready to throw a punch.
"For both knockdowns I caught him wide open and he seemed to know both rights were coming, but he couldn't avoid them," said Pavlik. "What I feel best about is that they were both right-hand shots and that is supposed to be my weak hand."
Pavlik's longtime trainer, Jack Loew, was excited by the performance.
"A guy couldn't be more impressive than Kelly was in this bout," said Loew. "He power punched a guy who was never on the deck before.
"Kelly showed tonight that he belongs in the thick of the goings on in the middleweight division."
Top of the rankings
That was a sentiment shared by Pavlik's co-manager and agent, Cameron Dunkin.
"When people ask me about Kelly Pavlik I usually say he can hit as hard as anyone in the world in any of the weight classes," said Dunkin. "I feel tonight he showed that against a guy who has been in the ring with some of the best and never been down before. [Top Rank Inc. president] Bob Arum is impressed and I would think from this moment on Kelly Pavlik qualifies as a top middleweight contender."
Pavlik came in at 160 pounds and Beaupierre weighed 1591/2.
