NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Lawrence County Autism Society will host a conference titled "New Ideas for Parents and Professionals" April 20 at the Jameson South Conference Center. There will be several speakers including Secretary Estelle Richman, Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare, Nancy Wiseman, founder of "First Signs," and Rebecca Moyes, "Education 101," advocate and author.

Physical therapy site
YOUNGSTOWN -- Beginning Wednesday, St. Elizabeth Outpatient Rehabilitation Services will add a physical therapy treatment site at The Weston Center, Office Entrance, 5533 Mahoning Ave. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. by appointment with evening hours by request. Deadly factory fire
YOUNGSTOWN -- A free dramatic presentation about the deadly 1911 fire at the Triangle Shirt Factory in New York is scheduled for 4 p.m. Tuesday and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Ohio Room in Kilcawley Center on the Youngstown State University campus.
The monologue, titled "Fire," will be performed by actress Paula Jasper and is set in March 1912, one year after the death of 146 workers at the Shirt Factory fire. Jasper's character is a woman who survived the fire and seeks to empower women, through informing them of her struggle and triumph. The fire had a significant impact on labor legislation conditions in the United States.
The presentation was commissioned by the Youngstown Business and Professional Women's Club.

Trauma lecture
BOARDMAN -- Dr. William Steele, founder and director of the National Institute for Trauma and Loss in Children a program, will speak on "What Do I Tell My Child/Teen when I'm Scared Too!" 7-9 p.m. Thursday at Holiday Inn on South Avenue. The lecture is for parents, guardians, and other adults who care for children. Everyone has the potential to suffer a traumatizing event in their lives.
Dr. Steele will point out the difference between grief and trauma. Trauma reactions overpower grief reactions. A grief reaction would be sadness, while a trauma reaction would be terror.

Chocolate tours
FARRELL, Pa. -- Daffin's Candies annual "Swizzle Stick Day" and Chocolate Factory Tour is set for noon to 4:30 p.m. next Sunday at Daffin's Chocolate Factory, 7 Spearman Ave. Tours will show how the chocolate is made -- and tastes, with plenty of free samples, and free bunny ears.
