Manningham, Stewartlead North to win
COLUMBUS -- Tyrell Sutton carried 21 times for 203 yards and three touchdowns to lead the North to a 45-17 win in the 60th North-South Classic on Saturday night.
Mario Manningham of Warren Harding caught touchdown passes the first two times he touched the ball for the North.
Derrick Stewart of Ursuline picked off two passes.
Sutton, a record-setting tailback from Akron Hoban, was a unanimous choice as the game's MVP. He gained 99 yards on 12 carries in the first half, then had 104 yards on nine carries and added one reception for 34 yards in the second half.
The North never trailed after running off 24 points in a row, scoring on its first four possessions.
Fitch's Mellott chosenfor Big 33 game
AUSTINTOWN -- Fitch High graduate Brian Mellott will play for Team Ohio in the 48th PNC Big 33 Football Classic at Hersheypark Stadium July 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Mellott earned three letters playing for the Falcons. He was a three-year starter at offensive tackle and defensive tackle.
During his career, Mellott made more than 100 tackles and 16 sacks. He forced seven fumbles. On offense, he graded out with a 95 percent blocking efficiency.
His honors include first team All-Federal League, the R & amp;R Truck Lineman of the Year and the Henry Schuler Award for having the highest grade-point average (3.99). Mellott will attend Ohio University.
Bocce teams forming
GIRARD -- The St. Rose Church Festival to be held July 29-31 is forming Festival Bocce Teams.
Cost is $25 per team of four players, ages 18 and older. Double-elimination games will go to 12 points and the championship game will go to 15 points.

Browns sign QBDoug Johnson
CLEVELAND -- Needing a veteran quarterback as protection for Trent Dilfer, the Cleveland Browns signed former Atlanta backup Doug Johnson to a one-year contract on Monday.
The 27-year-old Johnson spent last season with Tennessee. He signed with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent in 2000 and made 11 starts in four seasons before being released and signed by Jacksonville.
The Browns also waived defensive lineman Larry Burt, defensive backs Charles Byrd and Justin Fraley, wide receivers Bradley Chavez and Bill Flowers and running back Adimchinobe Echemandu.
Dilfer, acquired in a March trade from Seattle, played in just 10 games the past two seasons for the Seahawks. Before they brought in Johnson, the Browns' only backups were Josh Harris, a second-year player, and Charlie Frye, a rookie drafted in April.
Johnson got his most playing time in 2003 when he appeared in 10 games, eight starts, for the Falcons. He completed 136-of-243 passes for 1,655 yards and eight touchdowns with 12 interceptions.
Echemandu, selected in the seventh round of the 2004 draft, missed the first nine games last season with a leg injury. He had eight carries for 25 yards in four games.
Bengals claimKrenzel off waivers
CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Bengals claimed quarterback Craig Krenzel off waivers from the Chicago Bears Monday.
Krenzel, a fifth-round pick in the 2004 NFL Draft, appeared in six games last year and became the first Bears quarterback in nearly 40 years to start his career with three straight victories. But he lost his last two starts and Chicago waived him last week.
He was a two-year starter at Ohio State, leading the Buckeyes to a 14-0 record and the national championship in 2002.

NBA draft withdrawals
Dee Brown, the Big Ten player of the year, announced Monday that he has withdrawn his name from the upcoming NBA draft and will return to Illinois for his senior season.
Brown, who averaged 13 points and 4.5 assists per game last season, submitted his name as an early entry candidate for the June 28 draft but broke his right foot at a pre-draft camp in Chicago earlier this month.
Chris Hernandez decided to pull out of this month's NBA draft and will return to play a final season at Stanford.
Hernandez, who decided in April to test his value in the draft, filed paperwork last Friday with the NBA declaring his intention to stay in school.

Japanese man, 95,breaks 100 record
TOKYO -- A 95-year-old Japanese man who took up track only three decades ago has run the 100 meters in 22.04-seconds, a record for his age bracket, according to media reports.
Kozo Haraguchi looked sturdy and fit as he dashed Sunday at an outdoor track slick with rain in the southern Japanese city of Miyazaki.
