WARREN -- Rachael Prokop of Cortland and Meagan Rowbottom of Bristolville are recipients of the national "I Dare You Leadership Award" in recognition of personal integrity, balanced living and potential for leadership.
They were nominated for the honor by the Trumbull County 4-H program.
The "I Dare You Leadership Award" is presented each year by the American Youth Foundation in cooperation with principals, headmasters and 4-H county educators across the nation.
The award was first offered in 1941 by the late William H. Danforth, founder of the Ralston Purina Co. in St. Louis, who challenged youth people to achieve their highest potential and to influence others through lives of service.
The award takes its name from the book, "I Dare You!," written by Danforth, in which he commends the balanced life of mental, physical, social and spiritual development as the backbone of leadership. The girls will receive a certificate and a copy of the book.
Each year, more than 7,000 high schools and 4-H programs participate in the leadership award.
Prokop has been involved in 4-H for five years and is a member of the Brookfield Friends 4-H club. She has held various leadership positions within 4-H, including club president and secretary.
She's also involved in the Trumbull County Junior Fair board. Her future plans including attending college to major in creative writing to become an author.
Rowbottom has been involved in 4-H for eight years and is a member of the Kinsman Kid's 4-H club. She has held various leadership positions within 4-H, including club president, vice president and news reporter. She is also involved in the Trumbull County Junior Fair board.
Her future plans include attending college to major in either pediatrics or early childhood development.
