South Range grad is named female athlete of the year

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Jenn Toth has been named D'Youville College Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
A 2002 graduate of South Range High, Toth, a junior, is the third student-athlete in the history of D'Youville to be named Athlete of the Year twice during a career. She also received the award for the 2002-03 season.
During the 2004-05 year, Toth became the first female in school history to receive All-Conference honors in two sports during the same academic year.
She was chosen second team all-conference in soccer and softball by the North Eastern Athletic Conference.
Toth played in all 12 games for the Lady Spartans' soccer team last fall. She recorded one assist, had six shots on goal and anchored a defense that lowered its team goals by two per game.
This spring, she received NEAC softball pitching honors for a third straight season while leading D'Youville to its first NEAC softball championship.
In the conference, she posted a 6-2 record with a 0.93 ERA and struck out 61. For the season, she led the Lady Spartans in innings pitched (121.2), ERA (2.36) and wins (seven). In 17 games pitched, she only walked 15 batters and struck out 93.
Toth was named co-pitcher of the NEAC tournament with two complete-game victories, highlighted by the nine-inning, 10-strikeout win over Baptist Bible College for the title.
She also was honored as co-MVP of the D'Youville team, the second time she received that. A biology/physical therapy major, Toth is a Dean's List student and was named to the NEAC academic all-conference team for the third straight year.
Akron
Darek Stanfield has been selected to the 2005 Mid-American Conference Academic All-Star baseball team.
The senior closer from Columbiana, a two-time All-MAC selection, eclipsed his own single-season record of 12 saves this year when he closed out his fourth game during the MAC tournament.
A former catcher, Stanfield posted 26 career saves which ranks tied for second on the MAC all-time list.
Stanfield carries a 3.80 grade-point-average in biology and plans on becoming a dentist. To qualify for the Academic All-MAC team, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 GPA.
Ohio Northern
Sophomore swimmer Nick Frankle was named first team Academic All-District IV at large for the 2004-05 season in voting conducted by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
Frankle, an accounting major, was named the Co-OAC's swimmer of the year. He was a five-time OAC champion, winning the 100 and 200 yards breaststroke, the 1650 freestyle and was a part of the 200 and 400 yard medley relays. He was all-conference in six events.
Baldwin-Wallace
Nikki Garrett, a Canfield High graduate, completed her first season for the Baldwin-Wallace women's softball team with a .271 batting average.
She appeared in 39 games (29 as a starter at third base) and had 16 hits in 59 trips to the plate. Her totals included five doubles, a home run and seven RBIs. She stole two bases in three attempts.
A criminal justice major, Garrett had a .881 fielding percentage with 19 putouts, 55 assists and 10 errors.
Clarion
Freshman Lisa Baumgarder, a West Middlesex High graduate, played No. 4, 5 and 6 singles and posted a 13-1 record for the Clarion University women's tennis team during the 2005 season.
Playing for the No. 1 and 3 doubles teams, she posted a 7-2 mark as the squad complete the campaign with a 10-4 record.
A Communication Sciences and Disorders major, she is a Clarion scholar athlete.
Grinnell
Robyn Repko, a sophomore from Boardman, had a solid season for the Pioneers, capping it with a ninth place finish in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a time of 13:58:98 at the Grinnell College (Iowa) Dick Young Classic.
She was also 11th during the season in 13:46.43 at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.
Mercyhurst
ERIE, Pa. -- John Mang, a Fitch High graduate, will continue his athletic career for the Mercyhurst College baseball team this fall.
A four-year letterman for the Falcons, he was a first-team all-Federal League selection.
He was also a Division I all-district and all-Federal League selection and was honorable mention all-Ohio for football.
Mang, a member of the National Honor Society, is playing baseball for the Astro Falcons in the Class B League this summer and he'll be studying pre-medicine at Mercyhurst.
Thiel
GREENVILLE, Pa. -- Cardinal Mooney High graduate Amber Bodrick will play basketball at Thiel.
While earning three consecutive first team all-Steel Valley Conference selections, Bodrick became one of six Cardinals to score 1,000 career points. She also was selected as a first team all-Steel Valley Conference performer in track and field.
This past season, she set a Division III tournament record with 38 points against Columbiana, which also tied a school record. Bodrick is a two-time all-district selection and was also named to the Associated Press Division III all-Ohio team twice.
She averaged 25 points, 17 rebounds and three assists while leading Mooney to a district runner-up finish as a senior.
James Beedle, a McDonald High graduate, will play basketball at Thiel.
He was a first-team all-Ohio selection and was named district player of the year as a senior. He was also a member of the Inter County League first team and all-Trumbull County first team.
A member of the Blue Devils' baseball team, Beedle was a first team all-Inter County League selection as an infielder.
Carnegie Mellon
BOARDMAN -- Senior basketball player Dan Martin will play at Carnegie Mellon.
A two-year letterman for Boardman, he averaged 9.2 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. He blocked 17 shots, hit on 47 percent of his field goal attempts (74-of-155) and shot 59 percent from the foul line.
Martin has a 3.36 grade point average and plans to major in astrophysics.
Mount Union
ALLIANCE -- Brothers Ryan and Rick Coller of Brookfield will play baseball at Mount Union.
Both were two-year lettermen. Rick was a first baseman-outfielder for the Warriors and Ryan, a Trumbull Athletic Conference honorable mention selection, played second and third base.
They plan to major in business administration and sports management.
Heidelberg
TIFFIN -- Sean McBride, a Lakeview High graduate, will continue his football career at Heidelberg.
A two-year letterman, McBride (5-10, 165 pounds) played wide receiver, cornerback and returned punts for the Bulldogs.
He earned first team spots on the all-conference, all-county and all-district teams. He was honorable mention all-Ohio.
McBride also earned two letters playing baseball. He plans to major in accounting and finance.
