Blossom Music Festival
CLEVELAND -- Performances will be heavenly at the Blossom Music Festival this weekend. Hugh Wolff, chief conductor of the Frankfurt Radio Symphony Orchestra in Germany, will make his debut with The Cleveland Orchestra in Gustav Holst's best-known work, "The Planets," at 8:30 p.m. Saturday. The multi-media performance includes NASA film and photo images of the planets projected onto three large video screens. A pre-concert wine-tasting will be at 6 p.m. at the Special Events Plaza just inside the main gates at Blossom. A $15 sampling ticket is available in the wine-tasting area. On Sunday at 7 p.m., Blossom Festival Director Jahja Ling will conduct The orchestra in a program featuring Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with Lang Lang as soloist. The program also includes Prokofiev's Alexander Nevsky Cantata with mezzo-soprano Irina Mishura as soloist, in her Cleveland Orchestra debut. Tickets for both events are $38, $29 and $20 for pavilion; and lawn, $18. Lawn seating for children ages 6 to 12 is half-price and is free for children 5 and under.
