YOUNGSTOWN -- A 51-year-old man was listed in critical condition today in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at St. Elizabeth Health Center after he was thrown from his motorcycle in a collision Monday night.
Carl Venable, 51, of Jean Street, was driving southbound on South Avenue when his motorcycle collided with a northbound car turning left onto East Indianola Avenue.
Venable was thrown over the front of his bike and into the southern side of the intersection.
The driver of the car, 16-year-old Kayla May of Volney Road, had a learner's permit to operate the vehicle.
May's mother, the owner of the car, was seated in the front passenger seat as required by permit regulations.
According to the police report, May failed to yield the right of way to Venable, but no citations have been issued.
Traffic officers are investigating the accident and the speed at which Venable was traveling, spokesman Lt. Robin Lees said.
