LITTLE LEAGUE Coach charged in molestation

Saturday, July 23, 2005

Jeffrey Frederick is facing seven charges.
MILTON, Pa. (AP) -- A Little League softball coach was charged with molesting a 14-year-old girl on his team.
Milton Little League softball coach Jeffrey Frederick, 44, of New Columbia, was arrested Wednesday by borough police on two charges of aggravated indecent assault and three charges of indecent assault.
The girl told Frederick to stop kissing her while the two sat on a loveseat at her home on Saturday, police said. The girl's mother then entered the room and saw that Frederick had his hands inside her daughter's shorts, police said.
Frederick called the girl's cell phone Monday, but her mother answered the phone, police said.
Authorities said the girl also told them this week of another incident in May in which Frederick placed her hand inside his shorts.
Little League administrators had done a criminal background check on Frederick and found nothing suspicious, a national Little League official said Thursday. The check was conducted last October, said Lance Van Auken, a spokesman with Little League International in South Williamsport. Local league officials must perform the checks each year.
Frederick was arraigned Wednesday and was being held in Northumberland County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
It was unclear if he had an attorney. A woman who answered the phone at Frederick's home Thursday said his family had no comment and hung up the phone without identifying herself.
