Again, it's pitching that leads to a win

All the scoring for both teams occurred in the third inning.
FISHKILL, N.Y. -- Backed by some outstanding pitching once again, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers posted their second straight win Thursday night, defeating Hudson Valley 3-1.
The Scrappers scored all three runs in the third inning and then let a trio of pitchers take over and shut down the Renegades.
The victory was the 16th of the season for Mahoning Valley against 14 losses and kept them in the hunt in the Pinckney Division of the New York-Penn League.
Three excellent performances
Jim Deters (2-1) started and was the winner for the Scrappers. He pitched five innings allowing the one run and four hits while striking out five. Matt Haynes pitched the next three innings and was nearly perfect, allowing just one single while striking out three. Matt Lobert came on to pitch the ninth and pick up his second save of the season with a one-two-three inning.
Mahoning Valley, which had only five hits, did the damage in the third when they scored all three runs.
Cirilo Cumberbatch and Jose Chavez opened the inning with singles and then Evandy DeLeon reached on an error to load the bases.
Omar Casillas brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly, while Chavez scored the second run when Trevor Mortensen grounded into a fielders choice. The final run came off the bat of Derrick Peterson, who doubled to score Mortensen.
Hudson Valley scored its only run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single by J.T. Hall.
Both teams had only one hit apiece after the fourth inning due to some outstanding pitching on both sides.
After taking two out of three games from the Renegades, the Scrappers will begin a three-game series with the Aberdeen Ironbirds tonight at 7.
