AMERICAN LEAGUE
Red Sox 5, Devil Rays 2
BOSTON -- Curt Schilling earned his first save since 1992 and Manny Ramirez hit his 25th homer as Boston stopped a three-game losing streak. Schilling, making his fourth relief appearance as he comes back from a bone bruise on his right ankle, retired the side in order, striking out Jonny Gomes, then getting Fernando Cortez and Toby Hall on flyouts. Schilling was sidelined by the injury from April until last week. Bronson Arroyo (8-5) scattered five hits over seven innings, allowing two runs and one walk while striking out three.
Blue Jays 12, Mariners 10
TORONTO -- Eric Hinske hit a pair of two-run homers for Toronto and Ted Lilly (8-9) won for the fifth time in his last seven starts despite allowing five runs and seven hits in 5 1/3 innings. Miguel Batista pitched 1 2/3 innings for his 16th save. Adrian Beltre, Randy Winn and Richie Sexson homered for Seattle.
Tigers 7, White Sox 1
CHICAGO -- Omar Infante hit a three-run homer to back Jeremy Bonderman, and Detroit stopped Chicago's five-game winning streak. Bonderman (12-6) held the winningest team in the major leagues to one run and three hits in eight innings. He struck out five and walked two.
Rangers 2, Yankees 1
ARLINGTON, Texas -- Hank Blalock hit a two-run homer off Wayne Franklin in the eighth inning to win for Texas. Kameron Loe (4-2) got two outs in the eighth, and Francisco Cordero worked the ninth for his 22nd save, getting pinch-hitter Tino Martinez to fly out with two on. Blalock's two-out homer off Franklin (0-1) skimmed over the top of the right-center field fence and dropped into the Rangers' bullpen. The Yankees lost for only the third time in 14 games and dropped a half-game behind Boston in the AL East.
Twins 4, Orioles 3
MINNEAPOLIS -- Jacque Jones beat out an infield single to drive in the winning run for Minnesota. B.J. Ryan (1-3) blew his fifth save in 26 chances -- three of them against the Twins. Jesse Crain (9-1) won for Minnesota, giving the Twins only their second victory in six games since the All-Star break. Brian Roberts had hit a sacrifice fly to deep right field in the top of the inning to put the Orioles ahead 3-2. Rafael Palmeiro had two more hits, raising his career total to 3,009 and moving into sole possession of 24th place, past Al Kaline, on the career list.
NATIONAL LEAGUE
Nationals 4, Rockies 0
WASHINGTON -- John Patterson allowed three hits in eight innings, and fill-in shortstop Jamey Carroll delivered two hits and an RBI to lead Washington to only its fourth victory in 13 games. Patterson (4-2), who beat Shawn Chacon (1-6), left to a standing ovation after giving up a leadoff single in the ninth. Chad Cordero finished for his major league-high 33rd save. Nationals manager Frank Robinson shook up his lineup, sitting slumping shortstop Cristian Guzman and hobbled third baseman Vinny Castilla.
Cubs 7, Reds 3
CINCINNATI -- Aramis Ramirez homered twice -- his third straight game with a homer -- and drove in five runs for streaking Chicago. Mark Prior (7-3) gave up seven hits and three runs in 6 2/3 innings. Derrek Lee had three hits, including a two-run double in the fifth off Luke Hudson (1-5). Todd Walker singled twice, extending his hitting streak to 12 games.
Phillies 5, Dodgers 4, 10 innings
PHILADELPHIA -- Ryan Howard hit a two-run homer in the 10th inning to lift Philadelphia. The Dodgers went ahead 4-3 in the top of the 10th on Billy Wagner's bases-loaded walk to Jayson Werth. Pat Burrell hit a leadoff triple in the bottom of the inning off Yhency Brazoban (2-5), his first of the year. Wagner (3-1) earned the win, giving up a run in two innings of relief for Philadelphia, which has won six of seven games.
Mets 3, Padres 1, 11 innings
NEW YORK -- Pinch-hitter Chris Woodward hit a two-run homer with one out in the 11th inning for the Mets. Woodward homered off Chris Hammond (5-1) after Mike Piazza. It was Woodward's first home run as a pinch-hitter and the second game-ending homer this season for New York. Braden Looper (3-4) pitched two innings for the win. Cliff Floyd homered for the Mets and Khalil Greene connected for San Diego.
Brewers 5, Cardinals 4
ST. LOUIS -- Bill Hall's two-run double in the eighth inning gave Milwaukee, once down by four runs, the victory over St. Louis. Lyle Overbay homered and Brady Clark had three hits and an RBI for the Brewers, who beat the Cardinals for only the second time in eight meetings and ended St. Louis' five-game winning streak. The Cardinals led 4-0 entering the fifth. Albert Pujols hit a two-run homer, his third in five games since the All-Star break, for the Cardinals. Scott Rolen and Einar Diaz each had an RBI, but the Cardinals lost for only the 10th time in 40 games against NL Central competition.
