NORTH LIMA -- Beaver Township trustees are preparing to ask residents to renew the township's current expense levy in November.
At their regular township meeting on Tuesday, the trustees agreed to ask the county auditor to certify how much revenue would be generated by the renewal of the 1.9-mill expense levy. The renewal request is to be included for voters' consideration on the general election ballot in November.
In other business, the trustees hired Christy Carpenter as a reserve police officer, effective today, pending the completion of a criminal background check.
The trustees also passed a resolution supporting the national D.A.R.E. program.
The township's support is needed so the police department can apply for a grant through the D.A.R.E. program to help defray the cost of retaining the school resource officer.
Trustees also announced that they will hold their Sept. 13 meeting at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 13 at Woodworth Park.
