Paint balls hit houses
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two houses in the 300 block of South Schenley Avenue were hit with paint balls Saturday morning.
One of the residents told police that she heard a noise as if something was sliding off the house.
She discovered that at least 10 paint balls had hit the house and two struck the garage, damaging the vinyl siding.
The second resident reported that three paint balls hit the side of her house.
AutoZone alarm stolen
YOUNGSTOWN -- A vehicle security alarm worth $150 was taken off a shelf at Auto Zone, 3323 Market St., on Saturday evening by a man who, when yelled to by an employee, turned around and opened his coat to show that he had a gun in his waistband, reports show.
The thief told the store employee to not try and stop him.
The suspect fled in a dark-colored Chevrolet van but the license plate is registered to a Chevrolet station wagon in Warren.
The store is expected to turn over its surveillance tape to detectives.
Mack attack on Porsche
YOUNGSTOWN -- A green Mack dump truck struck the rear end of a brown Porsche four times Friday afternoon on North Meridian Road in what investigators suspect was a road rage situation, police said.
The owner of the Porsche, a 60-year-old Kent man, told police that he was waiting for the light to change on Meridian near the Interstate 680 ramp when the dump truck hit his car four times and pushed it into the intersection.
The truck then got on the freeway, according to two witnesses.
One witness followed the truck but told police the rear license plate was unreadable. Police agencies have a description of the truck.
Cancer race meeting set
YOUNGSTOWN -- The American Cancer Society's Relevo Por La Vida (Race for Life) Committee and team captains' meeting will be at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at Organizacion Civica y Cultural Hispana Americana, 3660 Shirley Road.
Chairwoman is Rita Lopez assisted by co-chairwoman Virginia Hernandez.
Urban League seminars
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Area Urban League will sponsor homeownership and financial literacy workshops at 5 p.m., Feb. 10 and 17.
The league serves New Castle, Pa.; Salem, Warren, Columbiana, Youngstown and surrounding areas. Workshop topics include qualifications for home loans and down-payment assistance.
The league will offer loan preapproval for those who qualify.
The league has offered to arrange Saturday classes for those who work evenings.

Solicitation charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police issued loitering to engage in solicitation citations at 12:30 a.m. Saturday to Jerome W. Johnson, 25, of Birchwood Avenue, Warren, and Sonya McCoy, 43, of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
Police who were sent to check out a suspicious car in the Watt Street area found a Cadillac pulled off to the side of the road on Carlton Street with its engine running.
Police said Johnson became belligerent when asked what he was doing but McCoy freely admitted that she is a prostitute and was picked up by Johnson, who wanted oral sex for $20, reports show.
Crack cocaine arrest
YOUNGSTOWN -- Officers arrested Nakia L. Sharpe, 30, of Fairgreen Avenue on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of crack cocaine Friday night after police saw him acting suspiciously by looking in several parked cars at the Avalon Gardens on Belmont Avenue.
Police found a loaded 9mm handgun and bags they suspected was crack on Sharpe, they said.
