INDALEX Company, union fail to reach agreement as contract expires

More talks are scheduled, the company said.
GIRARD -- Negotiators for Indalex Aluminum Solutions and its union workers failed to reach an agreement as the union contract expired at midnight Sunday.
However, it didn't appear that the union was planning to strike.
Scott Langdon, spokesman for the Chicago-based company, said he is unaware of strike plans by the union, and said negotiations are planned for this week.
Matthew Novosel, president of the United Steelworkers of America Local 4564, declined to say whether his roughly 300 members would walk off the job.
Both sides have met almost daily since Jan. 11, Langdon said.
Langdon wouldn't identify the sticking points, but said the talks have been "professionally conducted from both sides of the table."
The plant, formerly Easco Aluminum, is at 706 S. State St.
Indalex is one of the largest aluminum extrusion companies in the world, with 16 plants in the United States and Canada.
Extrusion is the process of forcing aluminum through a die to make a shape.
The Mahoning Valley has among the highest number of aluminum plants in the country with about 20.
Cheaper foreign imports, however, are threatening aluminum's success, Langdon said.
