HIGH SCHOOL WRESTLING Fitch leads EOWL meet through preliminaries



The Falcons and West Branch each had six athletes in the championship finals.
HUBBARD -- Austintown Fitch had a firm grip on the team lead at the Eastern Ohio Wrestling League championships Saturday night.
The meet, which wasn't completed in time for today's edition, was held at Hubbard High School.
The Falcons had 175 points through Saturday's preliminary rounds, ahead of second-place Beaver Local (155) and third-place West Branch (152.5).
Brookfield (131.5), Boardman and Alliance (124.5 each) rounded out the top five teams.
Fitch's finalists
Fitch had six wrestlers competing for individual championships on Saturday night.
They were Tony Jamison, at 103 pounds, who went against Elliot Citino of West Branch; Brian Weidenthal (125), against Eric Morrow of West Branch; Nick Bodnar, who was scheduled against West Branch's Brad Learn in the 135-pound final; R.J. Donadee, scheduled against Andy Lamancusa of West Branch at 140 pounds; J.J. Pankiewicz, 152, who was to face Randy Hogue of Brookfield, and Fred Weidenthal, slated against Josh Winner of Alliance at 160.
West Branch also had six wrestlers going for titles. In addition to Citino, Morrow, Learn and Lamancusa, Zach Miller was scheduled against Steve Wall of Howland at 112, and Nathan Sharp was to match unbeaten records against Howland's Rob Holbert at 275.
Also for Howland, Kyle Gantz faced off against Jimmy Bowersock of Beaver Local at 215.
Brookfield also had three wrestlers in the finals -- Hogue, Ross Tice at 145, who was to face Nick Dierkes of Jackson-Milton, and Anthony Policastro at 171, who was to face Pat McCabe of Canfield.
Boardman and Hubbard had two wrestlers each in the finals, including one head-to-head matchup. At 130, Adam Graban of Hubbard was scheduled against Jon Green of Boardman. The Spartans' Adam Chizmar was to go against Sonn Hostetter of Salem at 119, and Hubbard's Don Nadeja was scheduled against Chad Shields of Alliance at 189.
