Columbiana conservation district taking orders for fish and tree sales

SALEM -- The Columbiana Soil and Water Conservation District is holding its annual tree and fish sales.
Seven packets with seedlings of various hardwoods, pines, nuts and flowering ornamental trees as well as English Ivy leaders, crownvetch, pachysandra, wildflower seeds, bulk blue spruce, Douglas fir and white pines will be offered this year. Prices vary and the order deadline is March 31. Tree packets ordered through the program will be available for pickup at the SWCD office at 1834-B S. Lincoln Ave. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 14 and 15.
The Spring Fish Sale for local pond and lake owners offers various fish species such as largemouth bass, blue gill, channel catfish, crappie, perch and white amur. Most of the fish will be 3 to 5 inches long.
The deadline for ordering fish is April 11 and the fish will be available for pickup on April 14 at 2:30 p.m. at the district's office in Salem. The day of the pickup, buyers will need to bring a container filled with their own pond water. Five to 10 gallons per 100 fish is required. Line containers with a new plastic liner before adding water. The white amur must be placed in a container with a lid or a liner large enough to be tied at the top. Only two amur to each five gallons of water.
