Howland Athletic Club will register baseball and softball players ages 5 and older for the 2005 season at H.C. Mines Elementary School. Registration times are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 17, 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 19, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Feb. 23 and 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Feb. 26. A birth certificate is required for first-time HAC players. People interested in umpiring also are asked to attend. For more information, call (330) 856-7624.
BB Rooner Baseball has a roster opening for 2005. Rooners plays a 70-game schedule, including out-of-town tournaments. Interested players ages 15-19 can call coach Rod Simmer at (724) 651-5817 or coach Jim Daugherty at (330) 448-8515 or attend the baseball clinic Saturday from noon to 3 p.m. at Pleasant Valley Church. Hiram College will conduct an all-skills softball clinic Feb. 6. Instruction will be by Hiram coach Susan Woodford and the Hiram varsity softball team. Participants must bring clean gym shoes, batting helmet, bat and glove. Registration fee is $30 before Feb. 2, $40 after Feb. 2. BASKETBALL
Pleasant Valley Church in Niles will conduct a fifth- and sixth-grade basketball tournament Feb. 18, 19 and 21. The format will be determined by the number of entries. Champions will receive T-shirts and a trophy. Entry fee is $100. Deadline is Feb. 14. To register, call Marci at (330) 539-6582.
