COURTS Woman sentenced for cafe robbery
A woman was sentenced for forging more than $30,000 worth of checks.
MERCER, Pa. -- A Sharon woman was sentenced to 39 months to 10 years in prison Tuesday by Judge Francis Fornelli in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.
Lena McFadden, 36, of Sherman Avenue, was given the term for felony robbery, misdemeanor retail theft and recklessly endangering another person.
According to court documents, on Sept. 14, 2003, McFadden entered the Side Pocket Cafe, 109 E. Silver St., Sharon, reached over the bar and took a bag containing about $50 belonging to the bartender. When a woman tried to detain her, McFadden bit her hand while screaming that she was HIV positive.
McFadden also shoplifted $23 worth of personal hygiene products on Christmas Eve 2002 from Shop & amp; Save, 2199 E. State St., Hermitage.
Several others were also sentenced:
UAlan Ardin, 18, of Tamarack Drive, Sharpsville, was placed on two years' probation and ordered to perform 150 hours of community service for criminal attempt/retail theft, a misdemeanor. According to court documents, on May 27, 2004, he stole four chrome rims from a Farrell woman's car that was parked at Stupka Motors, 1435 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.
ULanai Graham, 38, of Wallis Avenue, Farrell, was sentenced to 60 days to two years in jail for four counts of forgery, four counts of theft by deception and one count of criminal conspiracy/forgery, all felonies. The terms will be followed by five years' probation. She was also ordered to perform 300 hours community service. According to court documents, in December 2004, she conspired with a man to forge checks worth $31,000 in various locations in Sharon and Hermitage.
UShelly Phillips, 33, of Grove Street, Meadville, was placed on two years' probation for misdemeanor retail theft for stealing a $1.49 package of tobacco from Giant Eagle, 2357 E. State St., Hermitage, on Sept. 15, 2003.
