MUNICIPAL COURT Owner of bar pleads innocent to gambling

Another man faces a felony count on allegations of shooting craps at the bar.
CAMPBELL -- The owner of Devil's Den Sports Bar and a Lowellville man accused of shooting dice inside the 12th Street tavern pleaded innocent Tuesday to gambling charges.
Bar owner Todd Zamary, 30, of Campbell, and David P. Sferra, 34, pleaded innocent in Campbell Municipal Court to misdemeanor counts of gambling and public gambling.
Zamary also pleaded innocent to operating a gambling house.
The men are free on $2,500 bond each.
Four other men accused of shooting craps at the bar at 5 a.m. Jan. 15 are to be charged Friday with gambling and public gambling. They are Arthur Henneman II, 50, of Campbell; Frank Daltorio, 41, of Boardman; Ryan Wittenauer, 24, of Poland; Brian Eckman, 37, of Lowellville.
Because this is his second gambling charge, Daltorio faces a felony count with a maximum penalty of one year in jail. He is awaiting sentencing in federal court in a gambling case involving LaVilla Sports Bar & amp; Grille in Struthers.
The others face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine on misdemeanor charges.
A cleaner image
Once known as a gambling hub, Campbell has cleaned up its image.
Prosecutor Brian Macala said he wants to make sure the charges send a clear message that gambling won't be tolerated.
"They were in a public tavern in the wee hours of the morning doing something illegal. That's not the stuff we want in our city," said Macala, a Campbell native. "We went through enough of that in the past."
That's not to say police are after "a couple of retired guys playing pinochle," Macala added.
Police said they arrested the men after spotting them shooting dice with stacks of money inside the bar. Police seized $3,842.
Macala said there is no evidence the men were involved in a larger gambling ring.
